Happy National Underwear Day 2008!

A cheap excuse for an underwear and lingerie site to sell more underwear and lingerie? Meh; could be, but who cares? As Lingerie Blog demonstrated last year, National Underwear Day also provides them an excuse to have people who are clearly made to wear underwear do it in public in New York City's Times Square.




So, if you haven't had a good reason to go out and get something new for under whatever drabness you may have to wear at work or classes, here's your chance.
Just make sure you get to compare it with another special celebrant's of the day later.

It's supposed to be 88 degrees and Partly Sunny for this year's event. At least the lady isn't be overdressed for the heat. Those photographing her may have more problems than needing sunblock, though..





They have 'changing tents' if you'd like to try on a new pair of underwear. The above member of the Working Press I'm sure is just in the midst of fact-finding with the model in his boxers.. um, is that a camera in her hand..?



The gentleman flanked by some of the lovely models and lingerie of the day above is Michael Kleinmann, the president of Freshpair.com and co-originator of National Underwear Day. If you ever run across this man, you owe him at the very least a Guinness , if not a year's supply of Guinness.

It's the 7th annual celebration of all things under-clothes brought to us by the fine folks at Freshpair.com. I run a non-commercial blog, but, let's give proper credit where it's due.



They're trying to do more of a month-long, on-line celebration this year for those of us who can't make it to their runway show in New York City's Times Square. Even though it's been moved inside, enjoy a mix of a few pictures from years past:





Barely There is one of the participating brands, not her pleasant state if undress; though it again proves 'the touch, the feel, the fabric of our lives' can be a very nice one. While Googling around, I found this 2006 picture of a Trends Analyst from a Cotton, Incorporated press release. Do you think this woman looks forward to going to work at least one day of the year? I do.



News this year? An age-old question has pretty much been decided, as explained by Freshpair.com's president, Michael Kleinmann, talking about the results of their latest survey: "the boxers or briefs debate has been put to rest with three times the number of men choosing briefs over boxers. For women, bikini briefs are the most popular style."




Not that my girlfriend and I have to follow the latest trends, but it's nice to know we were actually ahead of the curve in our personal choices some years back.

BTW- Mr. Kleinmann would be the lucky (clothed) guy below who thought of this annual Day in the first place. No fool, he.



Now- go forth! Celebrate National Underwear Day by wearing something special under your clothes (especially if someone special can see it later) or by buying some special panties for yourself or a loved one. National Underwear Day: The Brazilian Edition

You've heard about National Underwear Day in the United States; apparently, Brazil has their own celebration each February.



They just look like two groups waiting for really different buses, don't they?

Do make sure you take some literature on the event..

Hopefully, you're wearing something special in celebration (and all those who insist commando is the way to go, go along just this once.. sort of like everyone being Irish on St. Patrick's Day).



The folks behind it, freshpair.com, are having their celebration on-line as opposed to taking over New York City's Times Square (above and below) as in years past (can't rain, no expensive NYC permits, parking's better, no one catches a cold, or gets arrested, right?) Considering we hold a celebration of lingerie and underwear on-line all the time, makes sense to us.



They also did a little research this year, and uncovered the following:

24% of American men have a lucky pair of underwear
40% of men prefer briefs and 10% boxers;
the rest either are wearing trunks, boxers briefs, thongs, or nothing

34% of American women match their bras to their panties
26% of women prefer bikini briefs
21% of women prefer briefs
21% of women prefer thongs
18% of women prefer boyshorts
4% of women prefer other styles
(so that's who's been buying bloomers..)

For those who don't care for the Nothing option, through August 14th you can enter to win part of 5000 pairs of underwear (as we speak, my girlfriend is not doubt signing up for a couple hundred more email accounts..)

Maybe you don't feel the need to strip down and join twenty female and twenty male underwear models in New York City's Times Square to celebrate the 5th National Underwear Day, but you can live vicariously by watching them do it.




Imagine the cell phone call home: 'Mom! I've made it in the business! I'm in NYC, in Times Square in my bra and panties! Mom? What do you mean, what business am I in? Mom? Mom? ..damn dropped calls..'


'It's National Underwear Day, sir- here's some literature on it, and.. Sir, really, we're here to model for you, not the other way around.. and honestly, no, I didn't know they made Underoos in adult sizes.. yes, the Wonder Woman briefs are quite.. um, fitting.. sir, can you please pull your pants up?'

David and Victoria Beckham continue their assault on the U.S. to let us know they've arrived from the U.K. in the latest issue of W Magazine. Will they make Soccer as popular in the States as the rest of the known universe? Knowing the U.S., probably not.



Will they become as known here as in the rest of the world? Oh, I don't doubt it.



BTW, she's wearing mainly Agent Provocateur lingerie in the photos, and he's wearing mainly Dolce & Gabbana briefs. And, you may not know it, but his is the first male image** I've allowed to appear in fufL and I post it for a couple of reasons. a> You have to admit, they're pretty hott together. b> Though I love lingerie on my girlfriend, I do have an underwear fetish myself. c> I wear a mix of boxers and briefs - more briefs than boxers. Why? I think they're more comfortable.. and hotter when she removes them from me one thread at a time. d> Though my girlfriend already finds briefs on a guy hott, I understand a number of girls say they only like boxers on guys. If Mr. Beckham's ass in white cotton briefs changes one young lady's mind about that, their work in America, and mine in this post is done..



**CORRECTION: It seems I had forgotten a fufL post from last year regarding National Underwear Day. Ah well; Graduate after four years of college, and your mind turns to mush one year out.
It does serve as an excuse for an early reminder that this year's 5th National Underwear Day will be Tuesday, August 7th.

Another by-the-way: Heads up that the Christmas of the lingerie and underwear world is coming this Thursday.. OK, at least Christmas-In-August? It'll be the 8th Annual National Underwear Day! (Want to win free underwear? Click here to enter) Do prepare by planning to wear something special. From someone special, if you can manage it. My girlfriend and I recently did a week's vacation on the road, including much shopping for that-which-will-be-celebrated. We got each other packages of something special that we will not open until Thursday morning while getting dressed for work. Or, if our schedules permit, we may open them in each others' presence Wednesday evening.. meaning we'll probably both be calling in late to work Thursday morning..

Flying underwear causes power cut

A power cut which brought part of a Lincolnshire village to a standstill has been blamed on discarded underwear.

More than a dozen houses and a set of traffic lights in Leadenham were affected on Wednesday, with police being called to direct traffic.

Engineers traced the fault and found a thong had short circuited a power line.

It is believed the clothing was carried by a helium balloon from a nearby party. It became lodged in the wires and caused a fault when soaked by rain.

Andrew Barrow, from Central Networks, said: "Flying objects do occasionally cause us problems but in this case it was more risque than risky.

"What we think happened in this case was the offending article was on the line for some time but it was the heavy rain yesterday - wet things conduct electricity - which led to the short circuit."

He added: "The main thing to say here is that if people do see something on the lines, don't try and get them down yourselves, that is when it becomes dangerous."

The finger of suspicion has been pointed at the local polo club's annual ball.

Emma Rose, from Leadenham Polo Club, said: "It may never be proven exactly where this came from but it could have been our party.

"We think it may have been a joke, with someone taking the item from an overnight bag and setting it on its way."

The very idea of Wordless Wednesdays means there's no real room to explain it on Wednesday, so just a heads up that frankuphotos Lingerie will give it a try now and again. Not every Wednesday, since I wanted to do our annual National Underwear Day post this past week, which happened to fall of Wednesday, and should other events like the Victoria's Secret Fashion Shows fall mid-week, we'll skip the wordless idea as well. One thing I'd been thinking about was using series' of pictures from the same photo shoot in posts, so we'll make a bit of a break with the WW tradition of just one picture being worth a thousand words and give you several, starting this coming Wednesday.
